Weston St Mary CE Primary School - Coming together as one

Our Values

At Weston St Mary Church Of England Primary School we value the diverse backgrounds of all pupils and families and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world. Underpinning all of this are a range of curriculum topics which have strong links to the British Empire. We also use PSHE and SEAL activities to look at democracy, law and order and how we live in an inclusive society. We have a monthly school value which includes tolerance, respect, honesty and creativity, to name but a few.

On a general level, the school undertakes daily collective worships which uphold traditional values of empathy, respect and tolerance. These are also taught within formal SEAL, PSHE and RE lessons and on an informal nature throughout the school days. We study a value every month and these have included forgiveness, respect, determination, tolerance, friendship, honesty, love, courage and creativity. We send a newsletter home for each value so children can work on activities with parents and carers to fully understand how this works in life today. The value is displayed and children work in class to develop their understanding during the month. We asked our parents and carers which values we should learn about and have used this in deciding the values we study.

The children have raised money for Children in Need, Poppy Appeal and Save the Children amongst others. This helps us to think of others and how we can support and help them. We have competitive sports activities so that children can learn about competition and celebrating success.
