The pupil premium is an allocation of funding provided to schools to help raise the attainment of pupils. The amount received is dependent on the number of children who are eligible and have claimed for free school meals at any time in the last six years. All schools are required to report on the amount of funding and how this is being used.
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit to ‘narrow the gap’ between children from disadvantaged circumstances and those above the low-income threshold – it is not linked to a specific child but is to be used for overall impact. However, we are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils.
All parents (including those who are currently eligible for free school meals under the universal offer) are encouraged to check their child’s eligibility for Pupil Premium or continued free school meals (from Key Stage 2) and this can be checked via this link. Information required for this process includes name, address, national insurance number or asylum support service number. In addition, parents will need to provide their child’s name, date of birth and identify the school they are attending.
